I have a friend who did that and forgot that the person she regifted the gift to was the one who had given it to her!
So yes, it's a bad idea. Even putting aside the ethics of this, you might get caught.

In a new twist on a Yankee Swap, one place that I consult at does a version where you have to bring in a regifted item. The only rule is that it must be bad and tacky. Hilarity ensues.

Hattie- yea, it's always possible to "return" a gift by miscue.

Ann- those clients need a lot of consulting.

I have family that has done this to other family members. Hilarity did ensue. =D And drama. Lots of drama. I'm hoping for just as much excitement this year.

Brad- I just never understood the "generosity" about regifting.

There is none. It's a cheap way out. The person I know that did it likes to ask for expensive gifts too.
