17th Annual Honolulu Festival Parade

The Japanese make up most of participants in the Honolulu Festival, and it's difficult to be in a festive mood in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami, but today's parade was still a go. I've seen a video today on the tv of refugees at a meal station and there was a layer of snow on ground. Unimaginable situation. There'll surely be more first person videos to surface. Where could you upload those videos with power out everywhere.

Your camera is great! Very clear and vivid colors. My point and shoot Canon PowerShot camera does not make sharply focused pictures of faces at a distance, alas. I guess yours is not a point and shoot. Did you use zoom lens?

gigi- actually, the pics are from my lowly 4-mega pix Lumix. Somehow it manages to take better pics for parades then my more expensive Sony.

Wonderful photos!! Loved seeing all of them, especially after seeing the devastation in Japan.

I wanted to go see this. I'm so glad to have you there taking photos and sharing it with us so I can enjoy it vicariously through you.

Mokihana- That's probably the last of the Japanese tourists in Waikiki for a while. The period or mourning begins.

Kay- It was kinda uplifting in it's own way. Every day, more sad.

Cloudia- Ahoy. I take it that your boat at the Ala Wai harbor is okay.

I agree with everyone: super great photos, but then again for your blog, superior photography seems to be the standard!

I was out shooting the parade around 6 PM and my photos are nothing special and verge on terrible. (I won't be publishing them for a little while yet.) I've been using an 8 megapixel (I think) cell phone camera that does very badly in lower lighting situations and takes forever to autofocus. I do have a real camera someplace, guess I better start using it.

WW- after 6pm, there's not enough daylight for my camera. I stayed until the #50 group. I think there was around 75 groups in the parade. The cooler part of the day was nice for the paraders and spectators, too.

great captures. It's almost like I was there. I sometimes wish I lived in the heart of waikiki.
