Honolulu Marathon
As we speak, there's a few thousand visitors limping around in Waikiki. That's how you tell they ran in today's marathon even without their finishers' T-shirt on. Every year, the same scenario repeats itself. At any rate, around 7:20pm tonight I was riding around Kapiolani Park nearby the Honolulu Marathon finish line and the final runner was "blazing" it down the home stretch with a fanfare of tv cameras and of course me, saluting him with a beep-beep as I rode by on the opposite direction street. That's what like 14-hours after the race officially started off.

At the Naha Marathon in Okinawa, the finish line is shut down at 12 Noon. You're out scout if you can't finish by then.

I can't believe how empty your hard drive is.
Nate- with that cutoff, 12 noon, half the Honolulu Marathoners wouldn't finish. If you ever watched it after the half-way point most of the marathoners are walking more than running.
Cloudia- yea, figured you knew what I meant since you live down the canal from me.
Mokihana- eh, most people will think you're making the horse riding up. But there were even polo matches at the park.
Brad- that is definitely a loooong time. My hard drive might have even less on it after I reboot it and thousands of files disappear into ether.
Why would all of your files disappear?
Brad- "lost in the transition" is the best I can describe it. You have to transfer the files temporarily to another hard drive for the reboot that scrubs clean the main hard drive and somewhere, some place, along the way, files vaporize for reasons all to their own (?).
You mean you're planning on reinstalling the operating system from scratch?
Incredibly, Art is not limping. We've seen tired people wearing their Finisher shirts around town though. Art says that's why we have such a high percentage of Finishers in Hawaii...because they keep the Finish Line open until the last person goes through. But 14 hours? It sounds cruel almost.
Kay- I kid you not, the last people had an escort of several tv camera crews and this was in the dark. I actually saw marathoners on the late news later that night.

Agree with Kay - it's the Aloha Spirit that keeps the Japanese keep wanting to come here.
Nate- Must be a heck of a lot of Aloha, because two days later, they're back at work.

Hello - this comment is really a communication, not a comment for posting. I was interested to find a Waikiki blog. A few years ago I took out the name "waikikiwanderer" but didn't start my blog until this month. At the time there were no Waikiki blogs.
I do want to say that my intent is not to get into your territory, so to speak; I hope my effort, which is strictly Waikiki focused, will be complimentary to the excellent work I see here.
Surprisingly little is written on a regular basis about Waikiki. I'm trying to supplement that, as, obviously, are you. Waikiki needs more journalism and editorial content.
